Some life situations are really hard to resolve. And figuring out how to take action is a struggle. I am not talking about what flavor of ice cream you want, or what color your next car needs to be. The life challenges that cause us to struggle have more gravity and potential consequence. They tend to be about big life decisions such as right work, life direction or relationships.
Previously I offered a fairly formulaic approach to deciding how to move forward in our professional or personal lives using a structure for considering our choices. Being intentional and objective about WHAT we want to do, and really understanding WHY this action make sense, we can better choose HOW to take action.
As helpful as this approach can be, it does not always yield a clear path forward – especially in sensitive or very difficult situations where we know our choice will be very consequential. We feel stuck.
The late Steve Jobs, founder of Apple offered these important considerations to ease the way forward:
- Trust your intuition.
- Embrace your unique path.
- Be courageous in the face of doubt.
The logical mind is powerful and persuasive. It can calculate and define. But sometimes this part of ourselves is not enough to provide an answer we know is right.
Our intuitive self is equally persuasive and guides us from our experiences and a deep understanding and belief in what is right for us.What Is Intuition and Why Is It Important? 5 Examples
Trust. Self-Awareness. Courage.
These traits will guide you when a logical approach does not provide the best answer.
